United Nations - World Toilet Day!

What a Relief!! As workers in developed countries with robust sanitation infrastructures, we take going to the toilet for granted. The ease by which we can access clean water to drink and use is a routine event. The often practical placement and privacy of our toilet facilities are not given a second thought. The availability and disposal of feminine hygiene products is also becoming more universal in the developed world. These rights did not mystriously appear and in the vast majority of cases had to be fought for over several years. It's still an ongoing struggle to improve things for the future.

Contrast this with developing countries where workers in many sectors do not enjoy the "luxury" of a robust sanitation infrastructure. Add to this climate change as the earth gets hotter and there is a corresponding reduction in the number of natural clean water resources. This is further compounded by large numbers of workers in rural agricultural environments, especially women, being impacted more severely. This leads workers to deliberately limit their number of toliet breaks because of a lack of facilities, being dehydrated due to reduced water intake and the fear and increased vulnerability of going to the toilet in secluded locations. Using and going to the toilet is a basic human nessicity. When you "GO" on November 19, please spare a thought for those in more challenging circumtances. Then consider ways we can all drink clean water, "GO" safely, accessibily and that respects our individual privacy.
