I am a major supporter of the Olympic Games. The new Olympic motto now reads in Latin “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter” and “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together” in English.
No, I did not win a Gold medal in Paris. An amazing German female athlete called Yemisi Ogunleye achieved this in the Olympic Women's Shot Put to take Gold. Wunderbar! I am completely overjoyed for her and sadly, for me, she is not a relative.
This has reactivated my passion for acknowledging positive community support networks. The compelling stories that have astounded us of athletes overcoming adversity and dedicating years of their lives to one all-encompassing goal. While at critical times revealing hidden reserves of resilience and adaptability. Yemisi Ogunleye's progress to Gold at Paris 2024 has been no different. I have been happy to hear regardless of success or failure, athletes acknowledge their families, sport support team(s) and where the wider community has contributed to their participation at Paris 2024.
Sport and youth physical activity begin at the grassroots level with parents, volunteer coaches and adult youth leaders. That is why I am very glad that "Communiter/Together" has been added to the Olympic motto. Sadly, the Paris Olympics is drawing to a close. I am now looking forward to enjoying the magic, competition and sporting excellence of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
